WCPS and King's College School came together this morning to mark a landmark anniversary: two decades since WCPS joined the King's family.
Mr Andrew Forbes, WCPS headteacher, was joined by Dr Anne Cotton, Head of King’s Wimbledon, and Mr Ted Lougher, King’s junior school headmaster, as well as former WCPS pupils and members of the King’s sixth form. The joint celebrations reflected a shared pride in a partnership built on a deep commitment to the children of Wimbledon and our broader community.
Our rich history provided a fitting backdrop to the occasion. Founded by Miss Irene Whiting at 47 High Street in Wimbledon Village, the school passed through various devoted hands, including those of Mrs Nora Turner, who purchased it in 1950 and grew it from just 37 pupils to more than 200 within a few years. Her family continued to lead the school for decades after her death, before a succession of principals carried it forward to the moment, in 2006, when it joined the King's family.
20 years on, both schools look back with pride on a partnership that has gone from strength to strength, and forward with confidence to the many years of collaboration to come. From September 2027, we are delighted to be embarking upon one of the most significant developments in our shared history as WCPS becomes a co-educational community, as part of a gradual move to full co-education across the King’s community.
